Wellbeing - of people and planet - is central to the way we do business. We harness the creativity and potential of our people to help create sustainable, thriving places that Kiwis love to live in.

SOCIAL WELLBEING

At Woods, we think of ourselves as a ‘family of families’. Our people and their wellbeing are at the core of who we are, and we’re proud of our team and the culture we have built together. We work hard to ensure our employees enjoy working for us and focus on making sure we have a safe, fair, and inclusive workplace. We were honoured to receive the Aon Hewitt Best Employer Award in 2017 and 2018, and the Consulting Surveyors NZ Employer Excellence Award in 2024.

We engage with Mana Whenua during the consenting process to:

01

Prioritise tikanga Māori

02

Observe the Te Mana o te Wai and National Policy Statement - Freshwater Management 2020

03

Employ the six principles of mana whakahaere, kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga, governance, stewardship, and care and respect in our design considerations

04

Observe Accidental Discovery Protocols of iwi for the unearthing of artefacts or kōiwi tangata

CULTURAL WELLBEING

We strive to cultivate an environment where our people are able to bring their full selves to work, which includes their culture. Cultural sensitivity and respect are also an important part of our professional process.

Environmental wellbeing

Each Woods team plays a role in designing and delivering better, more resilient and more sustainable communities. We are certified to ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems), and our Environmental Committee defines, targets, and monitors our environmental systems and performance.

Some of the specific ways we do this are by:

01

Preventing adverse environmental effects when managing earthworks

02

Designing streets that encourage active transport modes

03

Considering climate change impacts in stormwater designs

04

Designing energy-efficient buildings with passive solar strategies

05

Choosing environmentally-certified materials
