Wairoa is a 65-lot residential subdivision on a greenfield site 20 kms southwest of Nelson — a project aimed at providing much-needed housing.
Woods was engaged to deliver engineering services for the subdivision, including the design and delivery of key infrastructure. Our team worked closely with Tasman District Council (TDC), iwi, and neighbouring landowners to align planning and infrastructure solutions with the needs of the wider community.
The site presented several complexities, including contaminated soils, flood hazards from potential river breaches, and a lack of existing water and wastewater services. Addressing these required a coordinated approach and strong collaboration with TDC engineers and other stakeholders.
Woods designed and delivered a new wastewater pump station and rising main, sized to service not just the subdivision but the broader catchment. The system was carefully developed to reflect both current environmental values and future development potential. The pump station is designed for a peak wet weather flow of 9 litres per second and includes provision for expanded emergency storage to accommodate long-term growth.
