Civil engineering services undertaken by Woods included erosion sediment control, bulk earthworks, retaining walls, final site levels, roads and parking, stormwater, wastewater, water, vehicle crossings, utility connections, Resource Consent, Engineering Plan Approval, and Building Consent.
Woods Involvement
Woods carefully planned and collaborated with all parties on the congested site - particularly in relation to the installation of below-ground services to serve the three new buildings.
Challenges
The civil engineering design was a key challenge that was presented during this project as it was a small, confined site on a slope that required numerous retaining walls.
The Woods team overcame that challenge as well as working around an existing Watercare public wastewater pipeline traversing the site - and which needed to remain. As such, the building foundations were kept clear of the zone of influence of the public pipeline.
With minimum ground cover needing to be maintained over the pipe, and with the bridging details required for retaining wall crossings, Woods’ careful planning and innovative methodologies achieved this while ensuring earthworks procedures and pipeline installations kept safe a protected tree in the adjoining reserve. Its root system extended into the site.
Woods performance
The design and consent were delivered in good time, and the construction phase and the final product were delivered to the client’s satisfaction.
